MySQL database

MySQL is a robust mature database server that caters for large online systems with many concurrent users.

Version: We have recently upgraded to MySQL 5.6. Horizon uses transactions throughout the system to maintain the integrity of data, rolling back any partial changes if an issue occurs during processing.

Backups: Horizon implementations run regular backups that are then automatically copied to Cloud storage.

Web Interfaces

Horizon uses a HTML web interface to display and present data.

Runs on any device that supports a modern browser: Google Chrome is recommended.

AJAX technology is used to speedily update portions of the interface.

Regular Expressions are used to validate data that is entered.

CSS is used to create usable and flexible interfaces that are easily customized.

Visibility of sections of the system can be controlled for different user groups.

Recommended Setup
Server Requirements: Windows Business Server

Dedicated or Hosted Options: Install a server on your own premises or connect to a Cloud-based system over the Internet.

Recommended Server specifications depend on the scale of the system: the number of users and the amount of data that will be created (sales, stock, purchasing, etc).

Reports Engine: BIRT (https://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/) is used to serve up reports, from order receipts to multi-store management reports

Client Programs: Once installed, Horizon can be accessed using a modern browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome (recommended). This makes it extremely easy to use the system from different devices such as desktops, laptops, or tablets.
